celtics afterthoughts: the wins keep coming somehow

April 5th, 2009 michelle View Comments

I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Mostly because these games are old, nobody cares anymore, I’m juggling two games on League Pass, my computer hates to multitask, and I have a particularly bitchy episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians to prep for.

Celtics v. Hawks 104-92

Ahem. STILL not a rivalry. So let’s stop the crazy talk. The Bobcats are more of a rivalry for christsake.

Celtics v. Bobcats 111-109

Double overtime? Jesus. Shuttlesworth, to be exact. FTW!

Celtics v. Thunder 103-84

I can’t look at them anymore and not think of them as the adorable “baby Thunder” thanks to Hornets Hype. I’m sure someday, they’ll come into their own and start kicking the collective asses of good teams and I won’t think they’re so cute then. They’re probably eagerly awaiting that day. Until then, though… aren’t they precious?!

More NBA musings

  • I found myself cheering for the Spurs today over the Cavs. It had nothing to do with the Celtics, I’m just slowing getting tired of Lebron and the way he’s called by the refs. Also, lately I’ve been finding myself loving Tim Duncan. Who am I? I’m scared. Hold me.
  • Allen Iverson went from being the star (Philly), to the co-star (Denver), to the non-star starter (Detroit), to the non-star bench player (Detroit). Can it really be that shocking that he’s spazzing out? I think not.
  • RIP Phoenix Suns. I hope this isn’t Grant Hill’s last season. He is still a great contributor and I love watching him play.

celtics afterthoughts: so not a rivalry

Celtics @ Hawks 99-93

Celtics seemed to have this one from the jump. Ahead the whole game, at times by a pretty healthy margin. Hawks made a run in the 4th that was a little scary, but in the end, the Celtics won by 6 and all was right with the world. Pre-game, there was a little buzz surrounding some comments Rondo made to the media about the Hawks not being much of a rival. Shouldn’t have been a surprise though, since KG said the same thing the last few times someone asked him about the so-called “rivalry” with the Hawks. It’s kind of like Shaq/Oden and Lebron/Deshawn. At this juncture, the Hawks are a low-level ninja named Soulja Boy.

nba sunday

March 2nd, 2009 michelle View Comments

Major snowstorm today. Pretty cool actually because they canceled work. Yes!

So yesterday (like all my favorite Sundays) was one long series of NBA games. Two on ABC and the final one on ESPN. Then I watched all Hefner’s babes move out on him on The Girls Next Door. Here are my thoughts on those games:

1. Pistons @ Celtics – I’m not mad that the Pistons beat the Celtics. Well, that’s not true. I was kind of mad about losing on our home court. That blows. But, these are the dog days and losses are inevitable, so I’m not going to lose sleep over this loss or anything. However, I think it’s highly suspicious that the minute AI is out of the picture (bad back, pouting, what-ev) the team suddenly comes to life and plays like the old Pistons. Actually, I don’t blame them. I would probably handle that situation the same way. The whole “flip the switch” thing is getting a little old though. They aren’t the only ones “suddenly” coming to life though, which brings me to…

2. Lakers @ Suns – The Suns are another team that suddenly got their groove back once they got their way. And again, I don’t blame them. I have sympathy for losing your coach and beloved teammates. You know who doesn’t sympathize though? Jeff Van Gundy. Holy smokes, every chance he gets, he rips the team for laying down on Terry Porter and getting him fired. He has a point too, but I don’t blame the team for Porter’s predicament. It’s got to go on Steve Kerr and the owners. Oh yeah, the game. Well, the Suns held on and won. Shaq looked fantastic. The Lakers went on a couple of runs and there were a few typical amazing plays out of Kobe Bryant that made me go, “Whoa. Not fair.”

3. Cavs @ Hawks – Ended up watching this one very sporadically, but I did see the end. Holy drama. Tied with only a teeny tiny bit of time on the clock and Lebron on the line. Misses the first shot. Makes the second. Johnson misses the go-ahead bucket. Fin. I actually like the Cavs a lot more than the Hawks, but my Celtics loyalty forced me to want the Hawks to win to help our home court situation.

Oh yeah, and not long ago we lost to the Clippers. Mmmm, yeah.

Celtics @ Hawks 88-85

16 in a row, baby! I hate the Hawks. More than I hate the Giants, but not quite as much as I hate the Yankees. It isn’t even rational probably, but it is what it is. This game was not fun to watch in any way at all. The Celtics missed almost every 3-point shot they took it seemed like. I vaguely remember Eddie House hitting one and thinking, “About damn time!” Ray was extremely cold tonight shooting-wise, but thankfully KG was KG (He scored 10 of his 18 points in the 4th Q). That’s about all I remember about this game because I spent so much time Twittering through it. Joe Johnson missed a free throw that really helped things out… Oh and I do remember one last thing. Bibby missed the 3-pointer that would’ve sent the game into overtime. Suck it Bibby!

In other news, the reason I’m posting this now (in a timely manner for a change) is because I’m still up watching the Hornets/Spurs game on ESPN. Jeff Van Gundy is heaping praise on the love of my life, James Posey. Good times, good times.

celtics afterthoughts: bibby, the snarky punk

Celtics v. Hawks | 103-102

Another one for the ages. Paul Pierce hit a in-your-face-bitch game winner over Al Horford and it was BEAUTIFUL. I can’t express heartily enough how much I despise Mike Bibby. The TV coverage helps of course, because they keep re-running that footage of Bibby dissing Celtics fans. Every time I see that, I want to pop him in the nose. Even if I didn’t have a good reason though, I think he’d still repel me. He has a snarky punk look about him. That’s reason enough.

Paul Pierce for MVP!! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

James Posey hugBoston 99, Atlanta 65 – That’s the way, uh huh uh huh, I like it… But seriously now, why the hell did it take 7 games? It was mind-boggling the way the Hawks fell apart in Boston every game and then went back home and played so great. Thank the good lord all-mighty that we had and will continue to have home court advantage.

Notes from the game:

  • Dear Marvin Williams, your claims that you were trying to keep “one of your best friends” Rondo from falling on the parkay were easily refuted by the replay shown on high definition surround sound of you DROPPING him on his head. So try again there sucker. What is it with this team? Horford puts T.J. Ford in the hospital and now this? Ever heard of making a play for the actual basketball? Enjoy the off-season. No love, me
  • Ray Allen was missing everything. It was excruciating. I hope he gets his mojo back for Lebron & Co.
  • The Posey hugs today were lovely as always. Sigh. I think I have a little crush on James Posey. Shhhh, don’t tell anyone. *wink*
  • The Zohan movie doing the split-screen commercial with Baron Davis was hysterical.

Lakers 109, Utah 98 – I never really thought the outcome of this game was in question. Sure, the Jazz stayed in the game the whole time and always had a chance to go on a run, but come’on… who has a shot to win at Staples with fat Jack in the house cheering on his boys? Not to mention… Dyan Cannon, Spiderman, E from Entourage, Anthony Kiedis, Denzel… and so on and so on. Celebrity cheerleaders always give you an advantage. They’re like normal fans only a hundred times richer and better looking. Its like having the center of the sun in your corner and their light just leads every shot into the hoop like a rainbow into a kettle of gold. Oh… and I guess a little Kobe Bryant on your team doesn’t hurt either.

Reality crap on E! – I’m waiting with baited breath for the 10pm episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians to come on. Why, you ask? Because I can’t wait to find out how the compelling “Kardashian Civil War” is going to turn out? No way jose. I’m tuning in to see my boyfriend Reggie Bush on webcam. Ooooh baby baby. *wink* I really hope Kim realizes I want him back when she’s done. *wink-wink*

Oh yeah, I fell asleep before the end of the game, but way to go Hornets for beating the evil Spurs!

plausible “friendships”

May 2nd, 2008 michelle View Comments

Tonight, both the Cavs and the Celtics have a chance to finish off their opponents 4-2. I have my fingers and toes crossed that they both do that. I know its crazy to wish for Lebron James & Co. as your next opponents, but that is a testament to how much I despise the Wizards. The thought that I would have to suffer through more of DeShawn’s hand-over-face waggling crapola (apparently called, “I can’t feel my face”) just makes me want to eat glass. Besides, I’m not afraid of any opponent for the Celtics. If they’re going to win the whole thing, they need to be able to beat anyone, so if Lebron is the “anyone” coming up, then so be it.

  1. Update #1: The Cavs blew out the Wizards. YES YES YES! Hey DeShawn, buh-bye.
  2. Update #2: Hawks 103, Celtics 100. SIGH. I knew this series would end up going the full seven. As I suspected, my trash talk jinxed the team! Does not bode well. Don’t worry about me though, I’m only halfway to the edge of this ledge.

So how ’bout that Roger Clemens scandal, eh? I love how it’s being reported that he had a “friendship” with Mindy McCready from the time she was fifteen, but didn’t start knocking boots with her until she turned eighteen. Mmmm yeah. Sounds plausible to me. I know pretty much every guy I know has “friendships” with girls and then wait for three years before trying anything with them. Yeah because you know, guys are usually that patient. Especially ridiculously rich, famous guys who are used to getting anything and everything they want.

The blogosphere was abuzz (haha, I love saying that) recently with the news that some crotchety lifetime journalist went off on Will Leitch about his trashy sports blog (Deadspin) on Bob Costas. I believe Braylon Edwards or some other athlete was there too, though he didn’t say much. Anyway, the best part of the whole entire thing was when Bissinger (the old dude) was reading from an apparent print-out of some Deadspin post and kept saying, “Big Daddy BALLS” (referring to the guest posts on Deadspin by KSK’s “Big Daddy Drew.”) Mmm yeah, maybe you had to be there. It was fking hysterical though, I swear. Watch this trainwreck if you dare…
