fun with big baby in the morning

July 2nd, 2010 michelle View Comments

Shoutout to @whatthenoelle on Twitter for calling this to my attention… Apparently, Big Baby and Perk are “beep sea fishing” this morning on the high seas. Perk looks jovial per usual. Good times.

ps. Is “on my mama” some new cool catchphrase with the kids? ;)

thoughts from last night’s nba broadcast (game 4 – lakers @ suns)

May 26th, 2010 michelle View Comments

Blogger’s note: I’m sneaking this post in from my work crib all super secret and all. So don’t expect many links or supporting images – I’ll have to slip those in tonight when I get home.

Keep ya day job, Barack
El Presidente picked the Lakers to win the NBA Finals. Puke. Of course, I’d be saying he’s a genius if he picked the Celtics. Duh. I guess both teams have to get there first though, don’t they? Celtics are a little closer being only 1 game away, but still. Don’t want to count the chickens before they hatch. Speaking of which, I totally blame those ESPN turdburglars – Jon Barry, Mike Wilbon, et al. for jinxing my beloved Celtics Monday night by all picking them to sweep. STOP DOING THAT. It’s a major hex and I won’t put up with it.

Pretty in peach
[Update: Turns out the software is fine. For whatever reason (encryption or something) video grabbed from TNT is not convertable, video grabbed from ESPN is. My bad luck that Craig Sager works for TNT and not ESPN.] Night 2 of the Craig Sager’s Suits Tumblr project went fine except for the fact that the WTV to MPEG software I bought sucks donkeydong. It works, then it doesn’t, then it works, then it doesn’t, then… AAAARGH! I refuse to have to run any command line bullshit… Finished software should be FINISHED. Sigh. Anyway, I was able to get a couple screenshots though, in between shaking my fist at the sky. He kind of looks like a peach cobbler. <3

I want shenanigans
How come the east coast finals get the ESPN tweedledums and the west coast finals get the Inside the NBA crew and Craig Sager? Not fair. Maybe I want to see weird Photoshopped pictures of Barkley every game! Not just Laker games! Instead I get no wacky Chuck photos, no hilarious banter and have to listen to Wilbon flip-flop about which team he thinks is going to win. Newflash, I don’t care who he thinks is going to win. ESPN doesn’t have anyone better they could pay to sit up on that panel? Nothing personal, Mike… But, it’s bad enough I have to endure being referred to as a ”knucklehead” by you every night after PTI, but I really don’t think I should have to listen to you before games too. Based on your “insight,” you have about as much NBA knowledge as my mom — who still thinks the Houston Rockets center is named Ow Ming.

Ayo, baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Big Baby is finally officially on Twitter (@iambigbaby11). He is a big fan of saying “Ayo baby” and of using exclamation points. A whole damn lot of them. You’ve been warned.

big baby, movie star?

Holy crap, I’ve heard everything now. According to NESN (via WEEI.com), Glen Davis (aka Big Baby, aka The Ticket Stub, aka The Eleventh Hour, aka Uno Uno, aka BABY OIL) was up for the part of Michael Oher in The Blind Side and was one of three finalists for the part.

Davis was first approached to audition for the role at the start of his rookie season with the Celtics in 2007, according to WEEI.com. Davis was a high school football player himself, and he acted in improvisation shows throughout his time at LSU.

“I’ve always wanted to act,” Davis told the Web site. “I knew about the football player, he played at Ole Miss, and I heard there was a book out about that. So I said, ‘Sure, I’ll try out.’” [NESN.com: Glen Davis Nearly Landed Lead Role in 'The Blind Side']

Big Baby, Thespian. A business card just waiting to happen!

he’s back, baby!

So, what you’re really saying is that I’m going to have to listen to diaper and pacifer jokes for another two years?
*  Ah well, I guess he’s worth it. Welcome back to beantown, BBD.

The Boston Globe reports:

The Celtics are expected to announce the signing of free agent forward Glen Davis to a contract, and have scheduled a press conference for 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Davis, a restricted free agent, agreed to a two-year contract during weekend negotiations.

What else is new?
* The Red Sox choked up a 4-game series to Satan’s spawn. I had no idea I was following so many damn Yankees fans on Twitter until this weekend. Most of them are pretty cool which makes it that much worse. Rotten bastards. ;)  My mom tried to tell me the Sox were starting to suck about a month ago and I called her chicken little and told her to chill out. I hate it when she’s right! I blame Dice-K. No wait, J.D. Drew… Unless no – it’s Papi’s fault or that damn Bucholtz, no it’s… oh blah.

Back like a bad penny
* Ben Wallace is returning to the Detroit Pistons for the veteran’s minimum. BDL’s Kelly Dwyer breaks it down…

how to spot a fake twitter baby

August 7th, 2009 michelle View Comments

Journalism 101
* So, let me get this straight…

  1. First, “Big Baby” posts on Twitter about being impatient waiting for his big fat contract to come through.
  2. Then, the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy writes a column reporting that Glen Davis is upset with the Celtics based on said Twitter account, without verifying with anyone that it is actually Glen Davis’ real Twitter account.
  3. Then, Glen Davis informs Danny Ainge that the Twitter account isn’t his and whoever has been tweeting is in fact, an imposter.
  4. Then, the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy writes a column claiming that Glen Davis is claiming that the account on Twitter is actually run by an imposter (insinuating that maybe Davis is just saying that it’s not his.)

You know, as opposed to admitting that he wrote a column without basic fact checking to verify that the Twitter account was in fact belonging to Glen Davis. A quick call to the Celtics organization. An email to Glen’s agent. Something? Anything? No, apparently it was enough to just go to a Twitter profile where the name was filled in as “Glen Davis”.

Personally, I wasn’t following this imposter because I was suspicious from the get-go (as I am with most NBA player Twitter accounts until they’re verified.) The biggest reason I suspected it was a fake? This background image:

Even though we all think of Glen as this big doofus who would post a picture like that to his Twitter, I don’t think he thinks of himself that way. Even if I did believe it was him though, it’s one thing for fans to fall for fake Twitter profiles and quite another for journalists to fall for them and write columns based on their contents. Worse yet though, is for a journalist to fall for a fake profile, write a column based on it and then not admit to his mistake.

Shame on you, Mark Murphy.

ps. It’s amazing to me that an imposter could cause or potentially cause real damage to a person’s career and not get his profile suspended (as of 8:30pm EST 8/7). But, poor Hugging Harold Reynolds (the blog, not the human being) got suspended for 2 days for doing nothing wrong. You’re right on the ball, Twitter!

you’ll pry perk and rondo from my cold dead hands

June 16th, 2009 michelle View Comments

These silly season rumors are giving me fits. It seemed like the very minute game 7 finished and the Celtics went fishing in Dingle, Ireland, people started speculating about who isn’t going to be back next year. Thoughts immediately flashed through my brain. Will they keep Leon or Big Baby? The answer is clear, simple and finite. Leon stays! Baby can go. I’ll miss him, but not as much as I’d miss Leon. This is not Sophie’s Choice for me. The decision is clear. After that, I pondered how quickly they’d tell Mikki Moore and Stephon Marbury not to let the door hit them in the ass on the way out. No problem with that. The rookies? Haven’t gotten attached to them. They can go too. However, there were certain players that I just assumed were untouchable. Never for a moment did I think I might have to brace myself for life without Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo or Kendrick Perkins. I think I could almost handle losing Ray. As much as I love him, I probably wouldn’t go into mourning if they felt like they had to trade him. But, the idea of trading either Perk or Rondo is just completely unbelievable to me. Rondo is a star. He has a lot to learn still, but he’s a star. And, what can you say about Kendrick Perkins? He’s the most underrated player on that whole team. Trading Rondo and Perk, in my opinion would be as ridiculous as trading KG and Paul Pierce. I will NOT part with any of them. You hear me, Wyc?!

Here is what I’ll agree to part with:

Tony Allen + a bag of pretzels

ps. Keep your grubby little mitts of Scal! I will NOT part with Scal either! Get back! *jabbing the air with a pitchfork*

celtics newsbriefs

May 21st, 2009 michelle View Comments
  1. Celtics assistant coach Tom Thibodeau has been making the interviews rounds for head coaching opportunities with Philly and Sactown. Good luck, Tom!
  2. The Globe’s Marc Spears reports that KG will have surgery on his right knee sometime next week.
  3. Stephon Marbury on his future with the Celtics: “I mean I love it here, I loved playing basketball here. That’s where I am right now… I don’t know what my future holds. I”m just going to wait and see what the future holds.”
  4. Big Baby on his future with the Celtics: “I love Boston. It’s a wonderful place. But if the opportunity is here, it’s here. If it’s somewhere else, it’s somewhere else. I have to go where the opportunity is.”
  5. In April, Leon Powe received that month’s NBA Community Assist award. As the April NBA Community Assist Award recipient, Powe will receive the David Robinson Plaque with the inscription, “Following the standard set by NBA Legend David Robinson who improved the community piece by piece.”
  6. Doc recently revealed that the Celtics starters were even more banged up than we thought. Perk/shoulder, Ray/hamstring, Paul/knee. Thankfully fishing doesn’t require any of those body parts to be fully functional.
  7. Sam Cassell has been hired as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards. Congrats Sam!

big baby, mark cuban apologize

May 12th, 2009 michelle View Comments

This cracks me up. Mainly the first part. “I’m a big guy. Sometimes I don’t even feel it when I’m sitting on a remote.” I wonder if he’d feel it if he was sitting on a coyote or a porcupine? I think it’s nice that he apologized and smart to do it in a humorous way. No need to act like it was a big ass deal, but always good PR-wise to acknowledge the incident and explain that it was unintentional. Since calling BBD a “raging animal” the kid’s Dad has since backed off and admitted he overreacted. All’s well that ends well, I guess.

Speaking of big ass deals, Mark Cuban finally apologized to Kenyon Martin and his Mom. Another PR move, but one that definitely was overdue. He extended the olive branch, but we’ll see what “Lips” decides to do with it. Ultimately, I think it will be hard to mend fences there. If Cuban really believes K-Mart is a “thug” or “punk,” I’m not sure how they could ever really kiss and make up. Could you forgive and forget with someone that you know deep down doesn’t respect you or your family? Probably not. Either way, it’s solid entertainment.
