Dear famous people,

Nobody gives a rat’s ass if you quit Twitter. While we’re on the subject, stop deleting your Twitter and then changing your mind and creating a new one. That’s stupid. Assuming anyone cares about you enough to follow you twice, it’s still an extra step that you shouldn’t force your fans to take. If you say something on Twitter that makes you sound like a nitwit, just realize that you can never get it back. You must live with it being “out there” like all the times you drunk dialed celebrities more famous than you from Paris Hilton’s Sidekick. If you do decide to leave though, just go away quietly. Don’t put out a press release or in any way advertise your departure… and for the motherfreakin love of James Posey and all that is holy, don’t produce a rap video about it.

No, I wasn’t following Miley Cyrus on Twitter because I’m not 12 years old. But, her stupid “Here’s why I quit Twitter” YouTube rap video did inspire this post.

Oh, you think I’m just lecturing celebrities about their Twitter habits to avoid discussing the double tragedy that took place last Sunday? Ok fine, you would be right.

R.I.P. 2009 Red Sox season.

Patriots still have a chance to get their shit together though. Come on, Tom Brady. Chop chop mister!

* What the hell is Cleveland doing to my beloved Delonte West? I blame YOU for this, LeBron! Word has it that the mercurial KFC fan was bombing down the street on a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle somewhere in Maryland when he wisely cut off an officer. D’oh! He was subsequently found to be packing some major heat — two loaded handguns and a loaded shotgun in a guitar case. A guitar case. And the legend continues… smh. More on this from ESPN/AP – Cavs’ West arrested in Maryland

* People magazine is reporting that Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom are already picking out wedding rings. Why the hell not? He’d be an easy man to cook for. Hey honey, you want the Skittles tonight or the Twizzlers? More on this whirlwind romance from People.com – Khloe Kardashian to Marry L.A. Lakers Player

* NFL wide receiver (and Kendra baby daddy), Hank Baskett has landed on his feet after being kicked to the curb by the Philly Eagles. He’ll now be catching passes from Peyton Manning for the Indy Colts who needed a replacement after the team lost wide-out Anthony Gonzalez in a week 1 knee injury. Not a bad team to end up with, all things being equal. It’s not like getting traded to the Raiders or something. RIP Richard Seymour. More tidbits from USA Today – Hank Baskett, Playmate wife join Peyton Manning’s team

* No Dick Bavetta? No Joey Crawford? What hell, you say? More on this from Yahoo! Sports – NBA to move ahead with replacement refs

* So the latest Twitter feud is currently on-going and stars Jets bigmouth, Kerry Rhodes and former Patriot, Rodney Harrison. The gist is that Rodney called out Kerry for threatening to embarrass the Pats and more specifically for threatening to hit QB and patron saint, Tom Brady. They’re going back and forth barbing yet claiming to respect each other. Blah, blah, blah. Lets just cut to it. Clearly, Rodney is right. He’s a former Patriot and the other guy is a smelly NY Jet. There. Done. More on this silly social media feud from WEEI - Kerry Rhodes and Rodney Harrison Engage in Twitter Battle

Is that a threat? No! It’s a promise!
* Chad Ochocinco claims to have found loopholes in the NFL’s new Twitter policy.

From the AP:

“I’ve been really, really quiet, and there’s a storm coming Sunday. That’s one of the things that I do when I’m back: I have something. I keep you on the edge of your seat.

“NFL, I would like to apologize to you guys early. I understand. I read all the fine print in the letters you sent, but I did find loopholes. I found loopholes.”

I found loopholes. Ah yes, music to my ears. In other words, get ya popcorn ready!

Get the full scoop here: Ochocinco says he has tweet surprise for NFL

ps. I finally got around to watching Ocho’s throwdown with Skip Bayless on ESPN’s First Take. According to ESPN polls, “America” thinks Ocho won the debate by a margin of something like 70%. Well, I think America is on crack. Skip crushed it. I love me some Chad, but he was blatantly overmatched. Besides looking like he was about to cry, he also didn’t have much of a comeback for any of the points Skip made besides admitting he’s a showboat and had a bad season last year. The one good argument he made that I will give him credit for is that the media isn’t in the locker room and make a lot of assumptions based on innuendo and heresay. I believe that’s true. If you missed it, ESPN posted it to YouTube. You have to request the embed code (figures), so here’s the link instead: Ocho Vs. Skip

I already explained what I was willing to part with… This is more than Tony Allen and a bag of pretzels
* I hate you more than ever, Danny Ainge!

Source: http://twitter.com/YahooSportsNBA/status/3237438573

If this happens, then I’m happy for Leon. He deserves a job and I’ll be glad that he has one. I will just never get over the Celtics not offering him at least the minimum like the Cavs are apparently willing to do. It was already bad enough that I had to hate the Cavs a little less because of my love for Delonte… Now they’re going to have Leon too? That makes things so complicated. LeBron is easier to hate than ever and don’t even getting me started on that flopper Varejao. It would have been really great to just be able to wish the entire Cavs team would rot in hell. Kinda like the Yankees. Now, two of my favorite players in the league will be playing for my team’s arch rival.

Crap.

Update: I decided to rip off the band-aid and replace the Powe square on my Twitter background to a Perk square. It was painful, but had to be done.

* So, let me get this straight…

First, “Big Baby” posts on Twitter about being impatient waiting for his big fat contract to come through.

Then, the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy writes a column reporting that Glen Davis is upset with the Celtics based on said Twitter account, without verifying with anyone that it is actually Glen Davis’ real Twitter account.

Then, Glen Davis informs Danny Ainge that the Twitter account isn’t his and whoever has been tweeting is in fact, an imposter.

Then, the Boston Herald’s Mark Murphy writes a column claiming that Glen Davis is claiming that the account on Twitter is actually run by an imposter (insinuating that maybe Davis is just saying that it’s not his.)

You know, as opposed to admitting that he wrote a column without basic fact checking to verify that the Twitter account was in fact belonging to Glen Davis. A quick call to the Celtics organization. An email to Glen’s agent. Something? Anything? No, apparently it was enough to just go to a Twitter profile where the name was filled in as “Glen Davis”.

Personally, I wasn’t following this imposter because I was suspicious from the get-go (as I am with most NBA player Twitter accounts until they’re verified.) The biggest reason I suspected it was a fake? This background image:

Even though we all think of Glen as this big doofus who would post a picture like that to his Twitter, I don’t think he thinks of himself that way. Even if I did believe it was him though, it’s one thing for fans to fall for fake Twitter profiles and quite another for journalists to fall for them and write columns based on their contents. Worse yet though, is for a journalist to fall for a fake profile, write a column based on it and then not admit to his mistake.

Shame on you, Mark Murphy.

ps. It’s amazing to me that an imposter could cause or potentially cause real damage to a person’s career and not get his profile suspended (as of 8:30pm EST 8/7). But, poor Hugging Harold Reynolds (the blog, not the human being) got suspended for 2 days for doing nothing wrong. You’re right on the ball, Twitter!
